ASSISTANT HERD MANAGER

Columbia County, NY

Responsibilities include:

  • 30-40 hrs/week (flexible schedule but one weekend day required)

  • Milking 4-5 shifts/week

  • Set up and move fencing according to rotational grazing plan

  • Electric fencing troubleshooting/string trimming

  • Set up and move water

  • Hoof trimming and general herd health maintenance

  • Barn chores (bedding down, feeding out…etc)

  • Assist with some basic construction projects

  • Some additional responsibilities during breeding/kidding seasons

Previous livestock experience required, and previous dairy experience is great but not absolutely necessary. We’re looking for someone who genuinely loves goats and has a desire to develop systems that help them thrive in their daily life. We’re a collaborative team and are very open to new ideas and thoughtful experimentation.

CREAMERY ASSISTANT

Columbia County, NY

Cheesemaking can certainly be fun and the product is delicious, but the day-to-day work is not as glamorous as some might think. It’s repetitive work and involves a lot of washing. This job is great for someone who takes pride in working precisely and is only satisfied when things are sparkly clean. Our farm might be a bit messy, but we take sanitation in the creamery seriously.

Responsibilities include:

  • 2-3 days per week (about 16-24 hours) we can discuss the schedule but have a preference for Friday or Monday, Saturday and Sunday is required.

  • About 50-60 percent of the job entails packing/wrapping cheese and washing/cleaning the cheese equipment, bulk tanks, vats, and such.

  • The other 40-50 percent is helping customers in the farm store, salting and ladling and flipping curd with the opportunity to take on more responsibility in cheese production as time goes on.

  • If interested- You will be trained on our goat milking procedures for some coverage on milking shifts.

MARKET STAFF

NYC

Ardith Mae is hiring market staff for three of our year-round farmer's markets in NYC: Union Square (Saturday), 115/Broadway (Sunday), and 77th/Columbus (Sunday). We're looking for people who can start ASAP and can commit through the summer.

This job is great for people who like talking to people, talking about cheese, and being outside in all weather. NYC Greenmarkets are hoppin' places full of good food and good people so if that sounds like a good time then maybe this job is for you!

The shifts are as follows:

Union Square: 7:00 am - 4:00ish pm
115/Broadway: 7:00 am - 4:00ish pm
77th/Columbus: 8:00 am - 4:00ish pm

Our driver will meet you at the market location in the morning with our market stuff for you to set up and then pick it up at the end of the day after you've packed everything up.

Responsibilities include:

  • Set up and organize stand in an attractive and clean way.

  • Have a clear understanding of Ardith Mae's mission and be able to effectively communicate this to the public and consistently represent it within the work environment.

  • Serve as a warm and welcoming market host and be able to explain each cheese and product we sell

  • Support market safety by enforcing COVID-19 protocols and help the market adapt as rules change during the season.

  • Be on time and consistent.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Compensation:

  • $18.75/hr, plus cheese

  • Guaranteed full-day pay ($150) even if the market is cut short due to weather.
